Former India cricketer, Sanjay Manjrekar has sent a huge warning to the New Zealand side as the ongoing 1st Test in Bengaluru, move onto to the penultimate day on Saturday. The Kiwis started off the Test with a bang by bundling out Rohit Sharma-led India for only 46 runs. While batting, the visitors established a 356-run lead, scoring 402 runs. India in the second innings responded sharply with three fifties and that's the reason why Manjrekar had to remind the Tom Latham-led side about the T20 World Cup final.
In the T20 World Cup 2024 Final between India and South Africa, the Proteas needed just 30 runs to win in as many balls, but then Jasprit Bumrah pulled off a sensational spell to guide the Men in Blue to their 2nd T20 world title. Manjrekar said that a similar thing could happen after the home side's comeback in the 2nd innings.
''If I were NZ, I would be slightly worried with India’s strong reply. This Indian team has a great knack of coming back. Only recently SA needed 30 off 30 balls in the WT20 finals, remember that comeback?'', the ex cricketer wrote on X.
Speaking of the Indian 2nd innings, the home side came down to bat with renewed determination as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan came on top with crucial fifties to set the tone for the team.
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 35 before Rohit made it count with 52(63), Virat Kohli, who's average has been below par this year, replied with a 102-ball 70. But unfortunately, he was dismissed on the last delivery of the day by Glenn Phillips.
Sarfaraz Khan is still standing tall and look well set at 70(78). The likes of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are still yet to come and their job would be to carry forward the innings and make it count.
