The New Zealand pacers literally ran over the Indian batters on Day 2 of the ongoing 1st Test in Bengaluru as the home-side achieved a new low in the longest-format as the Rohit Sharma-led side were bundled out for a paltry 46 runs at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday.
The likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, who had a century against Bangladesh recently, all managed to score a combined total of just 2 runs. Those 2 runs came off the bat of Rohit and apart from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant, not a single player managed to get past the single-digit number.
India legend and former national team coach, Anil Kumble was not a happy man with how things panned out in Bengaluru. Speaking of Kohli, he was sent back to the pavilion after facing only 9 balls and achieved an unwanted record in Test cricket. Among the active players, Kohli now has the most number of ducks (38) along with Tim Southee.
Kumble felt that Kohli should've sticked to the no. 4 spot as he is the best in that position for the team.
''Virat Kohli should have batted at No. 4, he is your number one batter at that position'', the 54-year old while speaking on Jio Cinema.
The 35-year old is clearly out of form as far as Test cricket is concerned. The RCB man presently averages 26.26 in the last 4 Test outings in 2024. When it comes to batting at the No. 3 position, his average is as low as 16.6 in 7 innings played so far in his career.
As far as the 1st Test is concerned, New Zealand have taken a lead of 134 runs as the scoreboard read 180/3 in favour of the visitors at stumps. Going into the 3rd Day, Rohit Sharma and co. will have a big task in hand.
