D Gukesh brought smiles to the faces of all Indians when he created history on December 12 by becoming the youngest ever World Chess Champion. He defeated defending champions Ding Liren in a nerve-wracking series of 14 games to clinch the title, as he became the second Indian to win the title after the legendary Vishwanathan Anand. A lot of attention will now be naturally centred around the young grandmaster's family life. He was once asked about whether he has a girlfriend, and his old reaction hato this awkward question has now gone viral.

Does D Gukesh Have A Girlfriend?

In an interaction with ChessBase India, D Gukesh was asked whether he has a girlfriend. The 18-yeafr-old was naturally shocked at this awkward question. However, his reply to this question highlighted his dedication towards the game.

In reply, Gukesh said that he does not have a girlfriend as he feels that this is not the right age for those things. He also feels that it might take away his time from chess.
"Probably it does take some time away from chess. Haven't really thought about it too much. I don't think this is the right age for those things. It might not make a huge difference, but it still takes some time away from chess," Gukesh replied.

D Gukesh Creates History At Singapore

The match between D Gukesh and Ding Liren was one for the ages as the game looked set to head into the tiebreak. After the 13th game, both were tied at 6.5 points each as the match headed for the 14th game which was the decider. However, the match finally turned in D Gukesh's favour, when Ding Liren committed a massive blunder in the 55th move of the game. This led to Gukesh winning the match, as Liren conceded.
Gukesh became the youngest World Chess Champion at just 18 years old. He broke the record of Garry Kasparov and Magnus Carlsen, both of whom won their first World Championships at 22 years of age.
