Tendulkar and Kambli share an inspirational story as the duo played school cricket together and later were teammate for Mumbai as well as the Indian cricket team. In 1998 while playing for Shardashram Vidyamandir School , the duo put up a then world record 664-run partnership in a Harris Shield match with both players scoring triple tons.

"We are cricketers. we get hurt. When we got out, we also get hurt. Sachin did everything for me. I had two operations in 2013. He helped financially.Sachin told me how to play. I made nine comebacks," Kambli said in an interaction on Vicky Lalwani's Youtube Channel.
"At that time, it came in my mind (that Sachin did not help). I was extremely frustrated. I called him. Childhood friendship came forward," Kambli added.
Kambli came through the ranks regarded among the most talented cricketers in the world and made his debut for India in ODI cricket in 1991 and Test cricket in 1994. Kambli created history by becoming the first Indian to score two double centuries in a row. His last Test for India came in 1996 while his final ODI appearence was in 2000.
