Australian star all-rounder Glenn Maxwell celebrated his 36th birthday on Monday, 14th October and in a shocking turn of events, his current Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) didn't wish him on his special day. It is to be noted that the Bengaluru-based franchise wished India coach Gautam Gambhir and former batter TM Dilshan, who also shared their birthday with Maxwell, but not a single post was dedicated for the all-rounder and it has sparked a massive speculation as fans come up with their own theories.
RCB might have ignored Maxwell, but the Australian's former team, Punjab Kings didn't miss out on his birthday. Now the netizens on 'X' have started speculating that the multiple-time World Cup winner might be heading back to Punjab as the franchises scratch heads on whom to choose as part of the retentions ahead of the Mega Auction.
If we rewind the clock back in July, Maxwell was reported to have unfollowed RCB on Instagram, it was a clear indication at that time that the Australian might not be in their plans or maybe the cricketer wants to pursue his career elsewhere.
In IPL 2024, Maxi was clearly out of form as he managed to score only 52 runs in the 10 innings he played. He was acquired by Bengaluru in the 2021 IPL auction for a good amount of Rs 14.25 crore.
Here's a look at what the fans have to say about the ongoing saga:-
Coming to Bengaluru, they are yet to win a trophy in the cash-rich league, even though the women's team have already won the IPL. In the 2024 edition, RCB qualified for the playoffs by securing the 4th position, only to lose it to Rajasthan Royals in the Eliminator stage.
For the upcoming auction, teams can retain up to 6 players including the use of RTM card (Right To Match). The first player has to be retained by 18 crores, the second 14 crores, the third in 11 crores, followed by the fifth and the sixth player, once again in 18 and 14 crores respectively.
We have to wait and watch and see, whether Maxwell will be retained in either of the slots or not by RCB.
