- R Ashwin lashed out at the Virat vs Babar comparisons
- Babar and Kohli are both former captains of the Pakistan and the Indian team
- Ashwin called for the debate to end
Ravichandran Ashwin ripped apart comparisons between Babar Azam and Virat Kohli while calling for the debate to end. The legendary Indian off-spinner did not mince his words and stated that the duo do not belong in the same sentence.
Ashwin praised Babar and called him an outstanding player. However, the 38-year-old pointed out that Kohli's credentitals are far better and stated that apart from Joe Root in Test cricket, nobody comes close to what the Indian cricket legend has achieved.
"Definitely, if he is given a chance, he will score runs. If there is class, I believe we should end this debate once and for all. First of all, across the border, Babar Azam and Virat Kohli shouldn't be mentioned in the same statement," Ashwin in a video on his Youtube channel.
"I am really sorry, I rate Babar Azam. He is an outstanding player, but Virat Kohli's credentials are something else. Across terrains, across times, across pressure situations, the kind of heists he has done, no one has come close to doing so in the world of cricket. As far as I know, at this point, if any one comes close, it is Joe Root in Test cricket," Ashwin added.

The Virat vs Babar Comparions
A few years ago, while Kohli was going through a lean patch, Babar hit a golden run of form across formats, which sparked debates among the Indo-Pakistan duo. However, Babar's form has nosedived since 2022, while Kohli returned to his best.
Overall, Kohli has over 27000 runs in international cricket with 80 centuries. Meanwhile, Babar is close to the 14,000 run mark and has made a total of 31 tons.
After Pakistan selectors took the bold call to drop Babar from the Test team, the decision was criticized by many experts. Fakhar Zaman, who is a vital part of the Men in Green's white-ball team, sparked controversy by criticizing the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) by comparing Babar's downfall to Kohli's lean patch.
