A British man has died after falling from a bridge while attempting to create content for social media in central Spain.
The 26-year-old had been climbing the Castilla-La Mancha bridge in Talavera de la Reina with a 24-year-old companion when he fell, the local mayor's office said yesterday in a statement.
"We have been able to find out, they had come to Talavera to climb the bridge and create content for social networks, which has resulted in this unfortunate and sad outcome," councillor for citizen safety Macarena Muñoz told Sky News.
Climbing the structure is "totally prohibited" and "cannot be done under any circumstances", she said.
"We are supporting the family of a British man who has died in Spain, and are in contact with the local authorities," a UK Foreign Office spokesperson told the Guardian.
The 192m-high bridge overlooking the Tagus River opened in 2011.
