Ace India batter Virat Kohli was seen going hard in the nets session two days ahead of India's first Test against New Zealand that is to be played at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The second and third Tests will be played in Pune and Mumbai from October 24 and November 1, after which the Indian team will fly out to Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The M Chinnaswamy Stadium is a special one for Kohli, having represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the venue for the past 16 years and he is expected to receive a rousing reception.
Kohli was seen brushing up his skills in the nets ahead of the crucial Test series. Watch the video here:
Kohli appeared to be in good touch in the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur, where he scored 47 runs off 35 deliveries in the first innings. In the second innings, he finished unbeaten on 29 runs off 37 balls, contributing to India's seven-wicket win.
Notably, India head coach Gautam Gambhir is not too concerned about Kohli's recent lukewarm form, insisting that the latter remains as hungry as he was when he made his debut and shouldn't be judged after every game.
Kohli has made just one half-century, a 76 against South Africa at Centurion last December, in his last eight knocks and his regaining touch is important for India against New Zealand in the three-Test rubber beginning on Wednesday and during the five-Test series against Australia in November.
"See, my thoughts about Virat have always been very clear that he is a world-class cricketer. He has performed for such a long period. He is as hungry as when he made his debut. To now, his hunger is always there," Gambhir told the media in Bengaluru on Monday.
Notably, Kohli scored his first Test hundred at home against New Zealand in Bengaluru in 2012.
