Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar found himself in hot soup after his congratulatory post on team India after their defeat to Australia went viral. Manjrekar in his post congratulated the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side for giving Australia a tough fight, but the post left the netizens upset. India women suffered a nine-run defeat to Australia in a must-win game of the Women's T20 World Cup. Australia batted first and posted a healthy score of 151-8, courtesy of Grace Harris (40,) and 32 each by Tahlia McGrath and Ellyse Perry.
India in the chase were mostly behind the game but a late charge by Harmanpreet Kaur got India close. The Indian captain fetched herself a half-century but India fell nine runs short of the target. India now need Pakistan to beat New Zealand in their final group game to advance to the semifinals.
“No other team other than India would have come so close to the big target Aus set on a difficult pitch. I say, well done India! And again what a star Harman is!” wrote Sanjay Manjrekar on X.
Harmanpreet Kaur Reacts To India's Defeat
Harmanpreet Kaur reflected on the defeat to Australia and said that the Aussies do not depend on one or two players, adding that they made life tough for India by not giving easy runs in a tall chase.
"I think their entire team contribute, they don't depend on one or two players, they have a lot of all-rounders who contribute. We also planned well and we were there in the game. They didn't gave away easy runs and made it difficult. They are an experienced side. That is something that is not in your control, you have to always keep your playing eleven ready even when one or two player misses out," said Harmanpreet Kaur.
