Explained! Why India Can't Beat Australia At GABBA And How They Can Escape A Highly Likely Defeat? (Source: AP)
Travis Head continued his love affair with India as he slammed his 9th Test hundred in the third Test at GABBA. To make matters worse for India, Steve Smith also returned to form and slammed a brilliant hundred. As things stand, Australia are 405-7 at stumps on Day 2. For the unversed, only 13.2 overs were possible on Day 1 due to rain.
Bumrah was brilliant for India, taking five wickets, but other bowlers hardly troubled the Aussies. The pitch was f;lat and the sun was out. Given the form Head was, was it a surprise to see him hammer the Indians, absolutely not.
India are in big trouble in the match and a win is mostly out of the equation now. Australia already have a huge score on the board and for India to score more than 500 runs and then bowl out Australia twice in just three days, that's a very tough ask. Australia though have runs on the board and is very much the only team in hunt for a win. Australia would like to bat just once in the match and try to bowl out India twice in six or seven sessions.
India's batters are not in great form and the wicket at the GABBA will get tougher to bat. If Australia breach the 500-run mark, it will be very tough for India to save the game.

The good news for India though is the weather is not great for the remainder of the Test. As per Accuweather, there is a 90 percent chance of rain on Monday and 100 percent for Tuesday. On the final day of the Test, there is an 89 percent chance of precipitation. As we saw on Day 1, a heavy spell of rain is good enough to washout a full day of cricket at GABBA and Indians would be hoping the forecast comes true.
India would be happy to take a draw here and go into the fourth Test in Melbourne with the series tied at 1-1. A loss in Brisbane would put them in a must-win situation for the remaining two Tests, which will be tough to pull off. If they fail to win the series, they'll be out of the WTC final as well.
