Travis Head Creates History At GABBA, Becomes First Player In World To... (Source: AP)
India were once again on the receiving end of the Travis Head onslaught as he scored his ninth Test hundred during the third Test at the Gabba in Brisbane. Head has been a thorn in the flesh for India. He was the difference between the two teams in the Day-Night Test at Adelaide, scoring a brutal 140 and leading Australia to a 10-wicket win that leveled the series.
Head along with Steve Smith, who returned to form with a brilliant century in the third Test, took Australia to a comfortable position. Things looked flat for India before Jasprit Bumrah triggered a collapse with the new ball. He got Smith for 101, Mitchell Marsh for five, and Head for 152 as Australia slipped from 316-3 to 327-6.
Travis Head Scripts History
Meanwhile, the hundred by Head helped him create a unique record. He became the first batter in the world to score a king pair and a century at a venue in a calendar year. Head scored a king pair at the GABBA against the West Indies earlier this year before the hundred against India. Overall, he is the fifth player to score a pair and a hundred at a venue in a calendar year, with Wazir Mohammad, Alwin Kallicharan, Marvan Attapattu, Ramnaresh Sarwan, and Mohammad Ashraful the other batters in the list.
Travis Head - A Nightmare For India
Travis Head loves playing against India and has handed the Asian giants some painful blows. Head scored a hundred in the WTC final to lead Australia to a win. He also scored a hundred in the ODI World Cup 2023 final against India to shatter a billion dreams. He missed out on a hundred in the first Test in Perth, however, he made up for it in the second Test at Adelaide.
Meanwhile, with rain washing out most of Day 1 and the wicket easing out, Australia would feel they have got themselves into a position from where they can't lose the game. India will now have to bat well and avoid collapse to save the Test. There is rain predicted on the final two days of Test as well.
