India’s participation in the ICC Champions Trophy remains under doubt. The next edition of the tournament is scheduled to take place in Pakistan next year.
India haven’t travelled to their neighbouring country since participating in the Asia Cup in 2008. MS Dhoni was the last captain to lead the Men In Blue on Pakistan soil and since then no other Indian cricket team has visited Pakistan.
Pakistan did take part in the ICC events on Indian soil with the latest being the 2023 ODI World Cup. India’s refusal to travel to Pakistan also led to the 2023 Asia Cup being held in two countries with Sri Lanka hosting all of India’s matches.
Newly appointed Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan extended a warm invitation to the Indian Cricket team. He insisted Pakistan have a lot of Indian supporters and they will be given a very warm welcome.
"Pakistan fans love Indian players, we received love in India as well. We also want India to come to Pakistan and play here.
“I'm unsure if they're coming for the Champions Trophy , but one thing is certain - if they come, they'll receive an warm welcome here."
Pakistan have reportedly identified Lahore as the venue for all of India’s matches due to security purposes. BCCI are yet to decided on whether to go ahead with the plans as the External Affairs Ministry is likely to take the final call.
A Hybrid model like the last Asia Cup could be an option and in this scenario, Dubai could be an option as in the past IPL has been organised with utmost success. PCB already submitted all the expenses details to the ICC and as per the tentative schedule, the tournament will start in February and will conclude in March.
