Babar Azam's Aura On Full Display As Indian Fans Gather To Click Selfies On Australia Touchdown: Watch (Source: X)
For those who think that Babar Azam's popularity took a dip after he stepped down as Pakistan captain following a lean run, think again because a recent video of Babar presents a completely different picture. Babar made a return to the Pakistan squad for the white-ball tour to Australia where the Men in Green will play three ODIs and as many T20Is. The Pakistan veteran along with several other players landed in Australia on Tuesday for the series. Watching Babar at the airport, several local and Indian fans gathered to take selfies with the former captain. Babar was graceful enough to acknowledge the love as he stopped and entertained every fan.
The last few years have not been great for Babar Azam as he failed to replicate his initial success in international cricket, both as captain and player. He stepped down as a skipper following a horror show in the ODI World Cup but PCB convinced him to lead the team in the T20 World Cup. Pakistan though had a poor outing in the tournament as they were knocked out of the first round.
Criticism was bound to come Babar's way and he was brutally slammed by fans and experts. Things went from bad to worse for Babar after he was dropped from the Pakistan squad for the final two Test matches against England. The veteran later stepped down as white-ball captain for the second time before the Australia tour. PCB later named Mohammad Rizwan as the new white-ball captain for Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Pakistan cricket was rocked by a huge controversy after white-ball coach Gary Kirsten stepped down months after his appointment. Gary was reportedly upset with PCB's decision to give the new selection committee full authority over team selections, with coaches not to have any say. Test coach Jason Gillespie will now coach Pakistan on the Australia tour.
