'I Asked Virat Kohli have You Blocked Me? He Said Yes Because...': Glenn Maxwell's Shocking Revelation (Source: BCCI/IPL)
Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell share a great camaraderie having played for RCB together. The Australia all-rounder in his book 'The Showman' revealed how Kohli played a significant role in Maxwell's entry to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Maxwell was roped in by the franchise ahead of IPL 2021 for a whopping 14.25 crores, and he repaid the faith by scoring over 500 runs and playing a crucial role in the team's run to the playoffs where they finished third.
Ever since the icons started playing together, their friendship grew stronger, however, that was not the case a few years ago when the players shared a cold war which forced Virat Kohli to block Maxwell on Instagram. Maxwell revealed he wanted to follow Kohli on social media after joining RCB but found out the then-RCB captain had blocked him.
"When I knew that I was going to RCB, Virat was the first guy to message me and welcome me to the team. When I turned up for the pre-IPL training camp, we obviously got chatting and spent a fair bit of time training together as you do. So I go to his social. media, follow him. Didn't even think about it before that. Never really crossed my mind. I was like 'I can’t find him," Maxwell said on the LiSTNR Sport podcast.
"I'm sure he's on social media somewhere so I didn't think anything of it. Not really that maybe he wasn't savvy with Instagram. Didn't really understand why he wasn't coming up and then someone mentioned that he might have blocked you. That is the only way you’re not able to find him. I was like surely not."
Why Did Virat Kohli Block Glenn Maxwell?
Kohli was upset at certain behaviour by Glenn Maxwell during the 2017 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. It was a very intense series that saw tempers flare in both camps. Kohli injured his shoulder on the first day of the third Test in Ranchi and Maxwell mocked him by clutching his shoulder when Australia came out to field, leaving Kohli fuming. Maxwell added the two shared a laugh at the incident and Kohli later unblocked him on social media.
"Then I went and asked him 'Have you blocked me on Instagram?' And he was like, 'Yeah probably. It was when you mocked me during that Test match. I think I got the sh*** and decided to block you. I was like 'yeah, that's fair enough'. So yeah, he ended up unblocking me, and we became great friends after that," added Maxwell.
