After the Test Series against New Zealand gets over, India are all set to return to white-ball action, as they travel to South Africa for a four-match T20I series against the Proteas. The series is set to begin from November 8. This is the third T20I series since the T20 World Cup 2024, and would have been the second series in the shortest format of the game under head coach Gautam Gambhir. However, it looks like he would not be part of the tour.

VVS Laxman To Be Team India Head Coach For South Africa T20I Series

According to a report by Cricbuzz, it will be legendary India batter and current director of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), VVS Laxman, who would be assuming the role of interim head coach for the series against South Africa. This is because Gautam Gambhir would be travelling to Australia with the squad that is set to take part in the all-important five-match series against the current WTC champions for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which begins from November 22.
VVS Laxman has time and again stepped in as the interim head coach during the tenure of Rahul Dravid. His last assignment with Team India was the T20I series against Zimbabwe when Gautam Gambhir was not yet announced as the new head coach, and Rahul Dravid's tenure had just ended.

NCA Coaches To Be Part Of VVS Laxman's Support Staff

The NCA coaching trio of Sairaj Bahutule, Hrishikesh Kanitkar and Subhadeep Ghosh will act as the bowling, batting and fielding coach respectively for the South Africa tour under VVS Laxman. The trio was also the key members of the coaching staff of the India A team that took part in the Emerging Asia Cup 2024 recently.
