The Melbourne Cricket Club CEO Stuart Fox has confirmed that there has not been an official complaint from BCCI against a section of Australian fans in the crowd who heckled star India batter Virat Kohli on Day 2 of the ongoing Test. Kohli's controversial shoulder-bump to Sam Konstas wasn't received well by Australian fans and some of them managed to rile up the former.
Kohli was booed and jeered while walking back to the dressing room after his dismissal in the Boxing Day Test against Australia in Melbourne, prompting him to turn around for a brief stand-off with the fans on an eventful day for him.
After being booed upon his arrival, Kohli looked determined to score some big runs before a mix-up led to Yashasvi Jaiswal's run out and eventually his dismissal as well.
"You're never comfortable when you've got fans heavily engaging with the player. As the operator, you are just always watching. I went and looked at the vision last night. I have been talking to security this morning. There has been no official complaint from India, they are comfortable," Fox said while speaking to SEN Radio.
"I think a bit of heckling happened late and Kohli popped his head back. I'll be concerned if it was abusive and (there is) any physical contact or abuse that is pushing the boundary. That's where we are always making sure everyone is well-behaved," Fox said.
Kohli's on-field conduct has become a hot topic in the ongoing fourth Test where he shoulder-charged 19-year-old debutant Konstas on the opening day. It resulted in a fine and a demerit point.
On Friday, Kohli batted well for his 36 before being caught behind off Scott Boland. He was dismissed after a mix-up with Jaiswal resulted in the opener running himself out at 82.
