Armaan Bhatia created history on Sunday (October 27) at the RK Khanna Tennis Academy in Delhi by clinching three titles in the inaugural edition of the PWR DUPR India Masters Title by emerging victorious in the men's singles, men's doubles, and mixed doubles titles.
Armaan started the day with a comeback that will be remembered for years to come by defeating the United States of America's (USA) Dusty Boyer in the summit clash. Armaan lost the first set 11-8 before showing his class to take the game to a decider by winning the second set 11-9.
However, what happened in the third set will live long in the memory of sports fans, as Armaan found himself 8-0 down and the dream of the title fading away. However, the 25-year-old made an incredible comeback to win 11 points in a row, win the third set 11-8, and seal the title.
"No, it was a great match. Dusty played really well. There was a point where I felt that I had my back against the wall. But I had my team, I had my friends, I had my family who were supporting me. They kept believing in me and that just gave me so much belief in myself. And we got through it," Armaan reflected on his victory in a post-chat with Pickleball Now.
The mixed doubles final turned out to be another three-set thriller as Armaan and his Dutch partner Roos van Reek played a thrilling clash against the Australian pair of George Wall and Danni Elle Townsend. The Indo-Dutch pair won the first set 11-5 before losing a closely fought second set 11-10. However, Armaan and Roos brought their A game in the decider to clinch the third set 11-1 and seal a title win.
Just minutes after his second title win, Armaan stepped onto the court for the men's doubles final with Harsh Mehta to face the Australian-American duo of Roman Estareja and Mitchell Hargreaves. The Indian duo registered a comfortable 11-3, 11-2 win to seal a triple crown for Armaan.
With victory in all three categories he participated in, Armaan has written his name in the history books and cemented a legacy future generations will strive to match.
Already India's and Asia's best player, Armaan, continues to rise up the ranks. A journey that started in Mumbai has taken the former tennis player to global stardom in pickleball.
