Sofia Sewing wins PWR DUPR India Masters PRO Women's Singles Final.
PWR DUPR India Masters: Third-seed Sofia Sewing beat top-seeded Kao Pei Chuan 11-3, 11-2 to win the maiden PRO Women's Singles Title at the PWR DUPR India Masters in New Delhi, which is on its final day on Sunday, October 27 at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association Stadium in the city.
In the first game, Pei Chuan bagged the first point after much to and fro as none of the players gave each other much space to operate. Sewing bagged her first point only after two consecutive errors from the former as the ball landed outside the court.
Sewing soon got into the groove as her hard-hitting saw her level 2-all, and eventually took a 3-2 lead quickly. She swiftly moved to 10-2 and eventually took the first game 11-3, giving the top-seeded yet fatigued Chuan a massive challenge once she got going.
After the change of ends following the first game, Sewing looked to continue in the same breath and quickly bagged the first point. An unforced error from Chuan meant that her opponent was soon leading 5-0.
Chuan could only bag her first point after successive errors from Sewing took the scoreline to 1-5 and the former opted for a time-out at that moment.
But Chuan's fortunes didn't change for the better. Sewing soon raced to a 7-1 lead and only a beautiful backhand shot from the former bettered the score for her to 2-7.
Sewing didn't get bogged down by the beauty of the shot and played a cross-court forehand to get to 8-2 and soon to 10-2.
Chuan, who sailed smoothly through her opening round and quarterfinal encounter, beating Sarah Burr and Xiao Yi Vang Beckvall, faced the first challenge in the semifinal against Roos van Reek, whom she could only beat in three games. The fatigue from all the hard work in the semifinals showed in her performance in the finals.
On the other hand, Sofia remained dominant throughout the tournament, first beating Miina Kominato 15-0 in the opening round. She then defeated sixth-seed Emila Schmidt 11-7, 11-3 in the quarters. In the semifinals, Somer Dallabona did pose a tough challenge, with the US star only winning it 11-9, 11-9. But her final performance against the top-seeded Chuan was exceptional.
