New Zealand ended their 36-year wait and pulled off a heist by winning the first Test of the three-match series against India. This was NZ's only third win in the country. NZ always went back empty-handed in the past 36 years and they did the unthinkable under Tom Latham's leadership. While newly-appointed captain Latham etched his name in history books, Rohit Sharma climbed a spot in an unwanted Rohit.
Rohit went past Virat Kohli in the list of Indian captains to lose most home Test matches. India have now lost three home Tests under Rohit. Their first home defeat under Rohit came against Australia in the 2023/24 Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Australia won the third Test to minimise India's lead in the series to 2-1. India retained the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2-1. England shocked India earlier in 2024 by winning the opening game of the five-match series in Hyderabad.
Rohit-led India bounced back strongly to win the series 4-1. England remain the last team to defeat India at home. The Alastair Cook-led side defeated MS Dhoni's India 2-1 in the four-match series in 2012.

India only lost two home Test matches under Virat's leadership. Their first defeat came against Australia in 2017. England kicked off their 2021 tour of India with a win in Chennai. India won both series. Dhoni-led India lost three home Tests. Two of the defeats came against England in 2012.
NZ have kicked off the India tour on a dream note and they will aim to etch their name in history books by winning the series. It won't be easy for India to bounce back after a big defeat in Bengaluru.
The home team is set to have at least one change in the playing XI as Shubman Gill will make his return. KL Rahul looks all but set to make way for him. Sarfaraz Khan scored a brilliant 150 in the second innings and he is likely to keep his place.
