India star pacer, Mohammed Shami has been recently spotted in Bengaluru's Chinnaswamy Stadium, where he was seen sweating it out in the nets as a desperate attempt to get fit for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy next month against Australia. It was during the ODI World Cup 2023, where Shami suffered an Achilles Tendon injury and since then things haven't looked bright for the 34-year old.
The Gujarat Titans pacer missed the IPL 2024 and the subsequent T20 World Cup 2024 in USA /West Indies and quite naturally had to go through a surgery. He earlier informed that he would look to gain India call-up by featuring in the Ranji Trophy and was also included in the Probables but failed to make it to the final squad as he is still yet to attain match fitness.
On Thursday, 17th October, he was spotted at the Chinnaswamy with specialists Troy Cooley and Nitin Patel as he races against time to be fit ahead of the series down-under as per a report by Revsportz.
A latest video has emerged on Sunday, 20th October, where Shami has been bowling to India batting coach, Abhishek Nayar in a practice session. He was bowling in full swing and the visuals, which has gone viral on social media has ignited hopes for Team India.
Here's a look at the video:-
Rohit revealed before the 1st Test against New Zealand that he don't want to bring an 'undercooked' Shami to Australia.
"To be honest, it is difficult to make a call on him for Australia series. He had a setback and had swelling in his knees. That put him back a little bit and had to start again. He's at the NCA with doctors and physios. We don't want to bring undercooked Shami to Australia. We are keeping our fingers crossed," said Rohit Sharma.
Speaking of the Test team, India suffered an 8-wicket loss on the hands of New Zealand in the 1st Test in Bengaluru in the 3-match series, which leaves the Indians with a simple equation, if they have any chance of making to the World Test Championship Final for the third consecutive time in 2025. Rohit Sharma and co will have to win 5 of their last 7 matches to secure a spot in the summit clash.
There is one glaring stat, that is not be missed is that Shami has never lost a Test match at home out of the 21 matches he featured. The team has won a total of 17 times, while the other 4 matches ended in a draw.
