Jasprit Bumrah showcased a brilliant display of fast bowling in the recently concluded Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Indian vice-captain ended up claiming 32 wickets against Australia in five Test matches.
Bumrah led the Indian bowling lineup in the ODI World Cup in 2023, followed by the T20 World Cup last year and had very successful outings. But India’s over-reliance on the 31 year old has proved to be a burden sometimes.
Bumrah suffered an injury blow in Sydney and his participation in the Champions Trophy remains doubtful. He reportedly suffered a back spasm and could skip the upcoming England series in a bid to be fit for the Champions Trophy.
Micheal Clarke has labelled Bumrah as the best fast bowler of all time, Comparing the Indian with Curtly Ambrose and Glenn McGrath the World Cup winning captain told ESPN, "The thing I've thought about Bumrah, after the series finished and I was sitting and thinking about his performances, I actually think he's the best fast bowler ever across all three formats.
"I know a lot of great fast bowlers, Curtly Ambrose, Glenn McGrath, didn't get to play T20 cricket, so I'm not talking about those guys, but in regards to anyone who has played all three formats, I think he might be the best ever.
"He's actually that good in any conditions, that's what makes him great; any conditions, any format, this guy's a freak."
The Champions Trophy will start on February 19 with host Pakistan taking on New Zealand in the opening match. Except for India’s match , the rest of the tournament will be played across three venues, Karachi, Lahore and Rawalpindi.
India will play all their matches in Dubai as things stand.
