A number of senior Indian stars have been under the microscope for their below-par performance. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are facing the heat but as per reports, Ravindra Jadeja’s position in the team is not secured at this moment.
As per the Times of India, Jadeja’s underwhelming display in both red and white ball cricket hasn’t been of much help and the selectors will take a call on his inclusion in the Champions Trophy squad.
Jadeja wasn’t considered for the Sri Lanka series after the T20 World Cup triumph. The 36-year-old announced his retirement from the shortest format last year and now it has been reported that his position in the ODI team is not very safe.
He has encountered a very poor strike rate and the emergence of Axar Patel could be a thorn for the Chennai Super Kings star. Keeping in mind the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup, the selectors might have to take a few tough calls and Jadeja could be one of the casualties.
A BCCI source told TOI, “Gambhir has been very assertive about creating core teams according to formats. As of now, he hasn't quite tinkered with the longer formats but has a clear vision for creating a strong base for the ODI World Cup. He is keen on giving exposure to a few more identified players.
“It's all about when the selectors decide the transition needs to kick in. They will discuss if they want to go with a safe option in Jadeja or move on right now, Even in Test cricket, he has struggled to get going, though his bowling has been steady. There is an urge to move on from him, especially in the ODI format. It will be a tough call in the coming days."
