Australia's victory over India in the fifth Test of an intense series at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) not only confirmed a 3-1 series victory for them and ensured they won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) for a decade but also sealed their spot in the 2025 World Test Championship (WTC) final.
The Pat Cummins-led side have the chance to retain their title and become the first team to win the elusive prize twice when they face South Africa at Lord's from June 11 to 15. Australia won the 2023 WTC after beating India in th final at Oval.
Australia Breaks India's Massive World Record
The 2025 WTC final will be th 14th ICC event final that Australia will play in history. This makes the first team to play as many summit clashes of senior men global events. They have gone past India (13) in the elusive list of teams to play most ICC finals. India and Australia are the only teams in history to play more than ICC finals.

Alongside two WTC finals, Australia has played the T20 World Cup and Champions Trophy finals twice in history. They have reached the summit clash of the Cricket World Cup eight times. Among the 13 finals they have played so far, Australia has won 10 titles with just three defeats (1975 World Cup, 1996 World Cup, 2010 T20 World Cup).
As far as India is concerned, they have played in four Cricket World Cups and three T20 World Cup finals. The Men in Blue have also played the WTC final twice while being part of the Champions Trophy summit clash four times.
Australia now holds the series title against all nine Test-playing nations (excluding Afghanistan and Ireland). This is only the sixth instance of this happening. Australia has previously achieved the feat twice (November 2005 - September 2005 and January 2007 to January 2009). South Africa (December 2012 to March 2014) and India (March 2017 to January 2018 and December 2021 to January 2022) also held a unique record.
