American tennis pro Jack Sock and Canada's Eugenie Bouchard are all set to pair up at the upcoming PPA Tour Masters in the mixed doubles category, as more and more tennis stars cement their place in pickleball. The qualifying rounds of the tournament were completed on January 6 and the main rounds of the mixed doubles will begin at 2:30 am IST on Wednesday.
The PPA Tour Masters, which will be held on from January 6 to Sunday, January 12 in California, will see Sock and Bouchard as two of the biggest names competing in the tournament.
The PPA Tour Masters is being hosted at the Mission Hills Country Club in Rancho Mirage, California. This is the first major event of 2025 for the PPA and is its first 'major' of the season.
The tournament is worth double the points for the PPA Tour professionals and is a crucial kick-off event for the season. The PPA Tour Masters is expected to be super interesting for new pairs to be tested out, including the Johns brothers, who announced last month that they were parting ways.
PPA-contracted professional players with gold card status have received an automatic bid into the main draw for the singles events at the PPA Tour Masters. Contracted professional player pairs where both players have gold card status will get an automatic bid into the main draw for the doubles events as well.
Sock, who played in fourth rounds of the French Open and US Open in 2015 and 2016, moved to pickleball in May 2023 with a professional debut at the PPA North Carolina Open in singles, men's doubles and mixed doubles.
Bouchard, who was the 2014 Wimbledon runners-up, joined the PPA Tour last season. She was never able to replicate the success of her breakthrough season a decade ago, which saw her reach the semifinals at the Australian Open and the French Open besides the Wimbledon final.
