Two Hungarian nationals have been charged after allegedly ingesting pellets containing heroin in an attempt to smuggle the drugs into Australia.
The pair, both 33, were selected for baggage examination at the border after arriving at Perth Airport from overseas.
Australian Federal Police said they were alerted after one of the men "indicated his stomach was hurting and wanted to go to hospital".
"Both men were taken to Royal Perth Hospital where one man excreted 30 pellets allegedly containing heroin over a period of almost nine hours," Australian Federal Police said.
"The other man vomited up two pellets and then excreted another 29 pellets during a 30-hour period."
While further testing is underway, the seized drugs have an estimated combined weight of 610 grams. The amount has a estimated potential street value of more than AU$259,000 (NZ$287,200).
The men face up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
