Not Yashasvi Jaiswal Or Joe Root: Ricky Ponting Names 25-year-Old Star As Current Best Test Batsman (Source: AP)
The cricket world is set to undergo a transition phase, with several big names heading towards the dawn of their careers. It's no secret that the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Joe Root have only a handful of years left as professional cricketers. The stalwarts carried on the legacy of yesteryear legends like Tendulkar, Dravid, Cook, Kallis, and more, and dominated world cricket for over a decade. As they move into the final phase of their careers, a few youngsters have already made the claim for cricket's would be legends.
India's Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, New Zealand's Rachin Ravindra, and Australia's Cameron Green are some of the top young players going around in world cricket, however, former Australia captain Ricky Ponting believes that England's Harry Brook is the current best batter in world cricket. Brook recently piped all-time great and teammate Joe Root to become the top-ranked player in Test cricket. The 25-year-old batter scored his eighth hundred and led England to a magnificent win over New Zealand in the second Test.

"He probably is (the best Test batter in the world) right now," Ponting said of Brook to ICC.
"He is doing some pretty amazing things and most of them he is doing away from home. That's his seventh hundred now away from home out of eight or nine hundreds and it's the way he gets his runs, with class and he gets them quickly under this new regime and I love watching him play, " he added.
Brook made his debut against South Africa in 2022 and scored a hundred against Pakistan in the same year. He caught the attention of IPL franchises and SRH roped him for the 2023 season. He didn't have a great season and scored just 190 runs in 11 matches. Despite the poor show, Ricky Ponting shelled out INR 4 crore to rope him for DC in IPL 2024. Brook though didn't make it to the season and pulled out at the last minute due to personal reasons. Ponting believes Brook can be equally successful in all formats of the game.
"I got him in the IPL auction last year because I think he's a generational type of player," Ponting noted. "I think he's really starting to show that now at Test level and I think he can do the same across all three formats," he added.
