Rohit Sharma Furious At Yashasvi Jaiswal's Indiscipline, Leaves For Brisbane Leaving Youngster Behind (Source: Ankan)
Team India is in the thick of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, currently being played in Australia. After their loss in the Adelaide Test, the squad is now focused on bouncing back in the third match in Brisbane. However, the journey from Adelaide to Brisbane took an unexpected turn when a junior player’s delay disrupted the team’s travel plans, leaving captain Rohit Sharma visibly irritated.
Missed Timelines
The team was scheduled to board a 10:05 AM flight from Adelaide to Brisbane on Wednesday. To ensure a smooth transition, they planned to leave their hotel by 8:30 AM. Players and staff began gathering promptly, with senior members like Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Rohit Sharma setting the tone with their punctuality.
As the bus filled up, players like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, and head coach Gautam Gambhir were also on time. However, young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy stepped off the bus, realizing he had forgotten an item in his room. This brief delay pushed the clock closer to 8:40 AM.
While the bus was ready to depart, Security Officer Anshuman Upadhyay noticed one player was unaccounted for and refused to allow the bus to leave. Both Upadhyay and Team Manager Jaydev Shah returned to the hotel to investigate.
Rohit Sharma Steps In
The delay stretched beyond 20 minutes, testing the patience of the usually composed Rohit Sharma. The Indian skipper eventually left his seat and stepped out of the bus to resolve the issue. After discussions with the team’s liaison officer and the bus staff, Rohit instructed the bus to proceed, ensuring the team would still make it to the airport on time.
Meanwhile, Security Officer Upadhyay finally emerged from the hotel with the missing player, Yashasvi Jaiswal. Both were later transported to the airport in a separate vehicle, where they joined the rest of the team just before boarding.
Kohli and Bumrah Travel Separately
Adding to the day’s events, senior players Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah opted to fly separately to Brisbane, citing personal schedules. They joined the squad directly in Brisbane, avoiding the delay altogether.
A Lesson in Professionalism
Discipline remains a critical aspect of any professional sport, and the Indian team is no exception. With seasoned players like Ajit Agarkar, Ashwin, Jadeja, Rohit Sharma, and Gautam Gambhir exemplifying timeliness, younger players must take note. While Yashasvi Jaiswal is typically known for his discipline, his rare lapse caused an unnecessary delay for the entire squad.
Focus Turns to Brisbane
Despite the minor setback, Team India reached the airport on time and successfully boarded their flight to Brisbane. With the series tied, the team is determined to deliver a strong performance in the third Test and regain their lead.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of punctuality and discipline—values that are crucial both on and off the field. For Team India, it’s another lesson to take forward as they prepare for the challenges ahead.
