KEY HIGHLIGHTS
  • Virat Kohli has the chance to create history
  • Kohli will play a Test match at the Gabba after 10 years
  • Kohli made a ton in the Perth Test
Virat Kohli will enter the Gabba Test with the chance to create history as India aim to regain the lead in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) after losing the Adelaide Test leaving the five-match series tied at 1-1 following the vistiors' 295-run victory in the series opener at Perth.
Kohli has had a roller-coaster series so far after being dismissed for three low scores. The 36-year-old was dismissed for five runs in the first innings of the first Test while he made just 7 and 11 in the two outings of the pink-ball Test. However, the former India captain hit the 30th Test century of his career in the second innings at Perth.

Virat Kohli Eyes Rare Feat

Kohli has the chance to enrich his incredible legacy Down Under and become only the third visiting player in Test cricket history to score a century in each of the five main Australian centers where Test cricket is played. So far, Sunil Gavaskar and Alaister Cook are the only two players to achieve the feat.
Gavaskar scored five tons in Australia, with one each coming at a different venue. He made a ton in Brisbane, Perth, and Melbourne in 1977 while he got to the milestone in Adelaide and Sydney in 1985.
The same was the case with Cook, who got a century in Perth in 2006 while he got to the three-figure mark in Brisbane, Adelaide, and Sydney in 2010-11 while completing the set in Melbourne in 2017.
Meanwhile, only two visiting players (Jack Hobbs and Walter Hammond) have more Test tons than Kohli (7) among visiting players in Australia. The Indian batting talisman has three centuries in Adelaide (2012, 2014, 2014), two in Perth (2018, 2024), and one each in Melbourne (2014) and Sydney (2015).
Kohli has played just one Test in Brisbane, in which he made 19 and 1. That was the only match of the 2014-15 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in which he did not make a century.
It is worth noting that Cook and Gavaskar scored a century at the iconic WACA Stadium in Perth, while both of Kohli's tons in the city have come at the newly built Optus Stadium.
Across all formats, Kohli has 12 centuries in Australia and is the only non-Australian to score more than 10 in the country.
