A butter-fly effect of the 2025 Champions Trophy scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan is that it has forced the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to delay the Pakistan Super League (PSL) which usually takes place in February and March just before the Indian Premier League (IPL).
This time around, the mega ICC event is set to take place from February 19 to March 9 which will mean that the PSL is set for a clash with the IPL. This leaves Pakistan's premier T20 competition in major danger with the best overseas players in the world set to be unavailable.
As per a report by Press Trust of India (PTI), PSL franchises have submitted a list of unsold players to the PCB ahead of the 2025 draft and urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to talk to their agents and confirm their avalability.
In the 2025 IPL Mega Auction which took place last month, several top overseas players like David Warner, Steve Smith, Kane Williamson, Daryl Mitchell, Adil Rashid went unsold and could look to play the PSL having failed to secure a contract in India.
However, it is worth noting that all these players still have a chance of playing the IPL as an injury replacement.
The PTI Report also states that the 2025 PSL draft is set to take place outside Pakistan with either Dubai or London likely to be the venue. This decision will come on the back of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) holding the IPL Auction on overseas shores in 2023 and 2024. While last year, Dubai hosted the mini auction, this year's two-day event took place in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah.
Meanwhile, the PCB is yet to confirm the schedule of the 2025 Champions Trophy with the International Cricket Council (ICC) still to make a decision on the tournament's status after India confirmed they will not travel to the neighbouring nation.
