'Prefer Not To..': Mohsin Naqvi Ignores Questions On Tri-Series With India Amid Champions Trophy Fiasco
Pakistan Cricket Board chief Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday, December 8 ignored a question regarding a proposed tri-series between India, Pakistan and another country at a neutral venue, even as an official word on the Champions Trophy's hosting is awaited. He said that he didn't want to jeopardise Pakistan's position in the upcoming ICC tournament by discussing the tri-series.
While it has been reported that a breakthrough has emerged in the issue over the Champions Trophy next year, with PCB agreeing to a hybrid model for all tournaments to be hosted by them or BCCI for the next three years, their proposal for a tri-nation series has reportedly been refused.
The agreed arrangement would permit India and Pakistan to play their matches at ICC tournaments being hosted by the other at a neutral venue.
"I prefer not to delve into specifics at this time, as preserving our position is critical. Pakistan is playing a constructive role in the process and will continue to do so," Naqvi said while speaking to the media.
The Pakistan Cricket Board had proposed a tri-series at a neutral venue as a negotiating means to help resolve the ongoing deadlock and there were no takers for the proposal. The Champions Trophy problem has emerged as a crucial concern in world cricket, drawing a lot of eyeballs.
On Sunday morning, Naqvi met Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, according to a report in Cricbuzz. The timing of this meeting is crucial since the Pakistan Cricket Board has reiterated that they will settle on an agreement only after a discussion with the government.
ICC's members look to back a hybrid model, with the UAE being the potential venue for India's games. The Pakistan Cricket Board has insisted that the same hybrid formula be applied when it is India's turn to host ICC events.
