India skipper Rohit Sharma has said that there is a thin line between getting aggressive and over-aggressive but a few words can be exchanged during a high-stakes game. He added that one does not need to ponder a lot over the verbal altercation between Mohammed Siraj and Travis Head after the former gave Head an angry send-off after his wicket.
India lost to Australia by 10 wickets in the second Test and during the Australian innings, only ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah stood out with a four-wicket haul. But most of the attention in the game was drawn by a verbal spat between Siraj and Head on Day 2.
While Head said that he had said 'well bowled' to Siraj to which he got an aggressive reaction back from the bowler but Siraj refuted, saying Head never said 'well bowled' to him.
"There is a thin line between getting aggressive and over-aggressive. It is my job as captain to see that no one crosses the line. But a few words can be exchanged. Siraj knows what he needs to do for the team and he will do everything required," Rohit said while speaking at the post-match press conference.
"When India and Australia play, these things happen. My job is not to look at one incident but at the bigger picture," Rohit added.
Siraj's fiery celebration after dismissing Head, who scored a counterattacking 140, sparked heated exchanges, adding drama to the second day of the Pink-ball Test in Adelaide.
The incident unfolded after Siraj, having dropped the local hero on 76 earlier in the day, conceded a six to him. He responded, castling Head with a low full toss and celebrating, while instructing him to walk back.
Head reacted with a few verbal volleys of his own before leaving for the dressing room. Siraj was booed by the record 50,000-plus Adelaide crowd.
