Arjun Tendulkar, son of India legend Sachin Tendulkar, will continue to play for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the IPL after being roped in by them in the mega-auction. For once, it looked like Arjun might stay unsold. His name didn't come up in the first accelerated round while none of the teams bid for him in the second round.
Arjun's name came up once again in the third accelerated round and Mumbai Indians signed him for Rs 30 lakh. Arjun has been with MI since 2021 and he will once again play under his father's guidance. Sachin is MI's icon.
Sachin started his IPL career with MI in 2008 and played for them till his retirement in 2013. Sachin was MI's icon player and had a high salary in all seasons he played. On the other hand, Arjun has twice joined MI at his base price. Here, we see how much salary MI have paid to the father-son duo.
Here we start with Sachin Tendulkar. The Master Blaster joined MI for Rs 4.48 crore (4 crore, 48 lakhs and 50 thousand) in 2008. Under the IPL's rules, every icon player was set to receive 15 per cent extra salary than that franchise's highest-paid pick in the auction.
Sachin was MI's icon player and earned the same amount in IPL 2009 and 2010. Under him, MI reached their first IPL final in 2010. They lost to Chennai Super Kings in the final. Sachin was retained for Rs 8.28 crore before the IPL 2011 mega-auction. His salary remained unchanged till he played for MI. Sachin retired after winning the IPL 2013 trophy.
Arjun first joined MI at his base price of Rs 20 lakh in the IPL 2021 mini-auction. At the IPL 2022 mega-auction, Gujarat Titans also made one bid for him and increased his price to Rs 30 lakh. MI signed him for Rs 30 lakh.
The BCCI increased the minimum base price to Rs 30 lakh for the IPL 2025 mega-auction. MI signed Arjun at his base price. Arjun has played five matches for MI since his debut in 2023.
