Much was expected from Rohit Sharma in India's second innings of the Adelaide Test match but he disappointed again. The India captain departed for a 15-ball six. Pat Cummins bowled Rohit to leave India reeling at 105/5. A play of only 3 overs was left after Rohit's dismissal and his wicket was a huge blow to Team India.
Rohit was sent a brutal retirement message by the fans on X as they reminded him of his poor run of form in Test cricket. The right-handed batsman has only managed one half-century in his last 10 Test innings. Here's how fans have reacted to Rohit's below-par run in Tests -
Rohit opened the Test season against Bangladesh with scores of 6 and 5. He followed up with scores of 23 and 8. He struggled against New Zealand and scored 2, 52, 0, 8, 18 and 11 across six innings. NZ pulled off a heist by whitewashing India 3-0. It was India's first series defeat at home since 2012.
Rohit, who missed the first Test due to personal reasons, changed his batting position for the second Test and batted at number 6. He only managed to score 3 off 23 balls in the first innings and failed in the second innings too.
India need a miracle in Adelaide
India need a miracle to avoid a defeat in Adelaide. They finished the second day's play with a score of 128/5 on the board. The visitors still trail by 29 runs and only have 5 wickets in hand.
Apart from Rohit, senior batsman Virat Kohli also failed to score big. The former captain struggled at his happy hunting ground and managed scores of 7 and 11. Yashasvi Jaiswal got off to a positive start but departed for 24 in the second innings. KL Rahul scored 7 off 10 balls.
India have their hopes pinned on Rishabh Pant and Nitish Kumar Reddy and will hope that they do a miracle in Adelaide.
