  • Samson equalled an embarrasing world record
Riding high after becoming the first Indian to score back-to-back T20I centuries, Sanju Samson failed to build on the momemtum and was dismissed for a duck for the second match in a row during the third T20I between India and South Africa on Wednesday (November 13) at the Supersport Park in Centurion.
After South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first, Samson was dismissd by Marco Jansen. In a deja vu of the second T20I, the 29-year-old was bowled by the same bowlers as the left-arm pacer once again rattled his stumps.
This was the first instance of Samson being dismissed for a duck in 2024. Before the tour of South Africa, Samson was dismissed for back-to-back ducks during the T20I series against Sri Lanka in July. He also departed without disturbing the scorers during the third T20I against Afghanistan at Bengaluru in January.

Sanju Samson's Unwanted World Record

With five ducks in 2024, Samson has equalled the world record for most ducks in a calendar year from a player who represents a full memeber nation. The Indian star is only the second player in world cricket to make five ducks in a year after Zimbabwe's Regis Chakabva.
Most Ducks In A Year In T20I Cricket (Full Member Nation)
Player Country Ducks Year
Regis Chakabva Zimbabawe 5 2022
Sanju Samson India 5 2024
Umar Gul Pakistan 4 2010
Faheem Ashraf Pakistan 4 2018
Talking about the match, Samson's dismissal did not effect India's plan as Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Verma ensured a quick-fire start for the visitors with a 107-run partnership for the second wicket in just 50 balls. The world champions made 70 runs in the powerplay. Abhishek departed after making a quick-fire 25-ball 50, while Tilak got to his half-century in just 31 balls.
The series is currently level 1-1 after India won the series opener in Durban by 61 runs. However, the Proteas leveled the series with a three-wicket win in the second game at Gqeberha.
