MS Dhoni in action for CSK
All speculations have been put to rest after Chennai Super Kings (CSK) announced MS Dhoni as one of their retentions for the upcoming IPL 2025 season. He has been roped in as an uncapped player for 4 crores. Since he didn't feature in any international matches for India in the last five years, the 43-year-old veteran is now termed as an 'uncapped' player.
This would be the 18th straight season, Thala Dhoni will be seen in action in the cash-rich league and former India cricketer cum commentator, Sanjay Manjrekar feels that the former India captain should once again take up the captaincy responsibilities of the Super Kings as it would be 'fun' to watch him and his impact will be more compared to a batter.
Ruturaj Gaikwad, last season tok over the captaincy duties from Dhoni but Chennai, who were the then defending champions, failed to qualify for the IPL play-offs.
"Dhoni should become captain of CSK in IPL 2025. He played under Ruturaj Gaikwad last season. It was not so much fun to watch. Even if Dhoni doesn't bat, he can make more impact as captain and wicketkeeper alone for CSK'', Manjrekar told Star Sports Hindi.
At the age of 43, Dhoni also happens to be the oldest uncapped player in the history of the tournament.
Speaking of the retentions, CSK has retained Ruturaj Gaikwad, Matheesha Pathirana, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni for the upcoming season.
CSK's Confirmed Retentions: Ruturaj Gaikwad (INR 18 crore), Matheesha Pathirana (INR 13 crore), Shivam Dube (INR 12 crore), Ravindra Jadeja (INR 18 crore), MS Dhoni (INR 4 crore).
