KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Punjab Kings have retained only two players
- PBKS have not kept hold of any capped players
- PBKS will have Rs. 110.5 crore to spend at the auction
The Punjab Kings are set to enter the IPL 2025 mega auction with the highest purse with more than Rs. 100 crore in their kitty as they reportedly decided to retain just two uncapped players as they aim for a squad overhaul after the appointment of Ricky Ponting as head coach. Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh will stay with the franchise as they enter the auction with Rs. 110.5 crore in their purse.
The franchise have not retained Arshdeep Singh, who is a key member of the Indian team and played a vital role in the Men in Blue winning the 2024 T20 World Cup. Arshdeep was the joint highest wicket-taker in the tournament with 17 scalps to his name.
PBKS have four RTMs and are likely to try buying Arshdeep back in the auction. However, the decision to not keep hold of him comes as a surprise as the left-arm pacer is set to attract interest from across the table. He has been part of the franchise since 2019 and was retained as uncapped player ahead of the 2022 mega auction.
PBKS will also be in search of a new captain with former captain Shikhar Dhawan announcing his retirement. Sam Curran led the team for extended periods in 2023 and 2024 but does not find his name in the list of retained players despite being the most expensive player in IPL history for a year.
