The deadline for all 10 IPL franchises to retain and release players from their squad before the IPl 2025 mega auction ended on October 31 (Thursday). The BCCI set a limit for a franchise to retain no more than six players. One of the franchises who definitely struggled to retain just six players from their already enriched and settled squad would be the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). The side won their third IPL trophy in 2024, and leaving out important members from that squad will always prove to be a tough task. however, it looks like KKR are likely to take some tough calls, especially with regards to their captain.
The big news that came in was Shreyas Iyer was released from KKR, just a season after becoming only the second captain to win a title for the franchise. This is , according to a report by Cricbuzz, due to the exorbitant price demands made by the star batter, which were too high to be met.
Rinku Singh was the player who fetched the higheerst amount among all the four retentions by KKR at a price of Rs 13 crore. Sunil Narine and Andre Russell have been retained for Rs 12 crore each. The uncapped duo of Ramndeep Singh and Harshit Rana have been picked up for Rs 4 crore each.
