It's on the grapevine that Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) star, Harshit Rana, who is selected for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia is all set to make his India debut in the 3rd and final Test against New Zealand in Mumbai on 1st November. Multiple reports have led everyone to believe that Rana will make his much-awaited debut after the IPL retentions deadline on 31st October.
India assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar have finally spilled the beans and revealed that no further additions will made in the squad for the final test as the Rohit Sharma-led side look to get a consolation victory before the T20I side get ready for the South Africa T20I series from 8th November ahead of the BGT down under.
"No additions to the squad. Every week is critical, every day is critical. We have not been narrow-minded in thinking about WTC final. We want to focus on this match,” Nayar said as quoted by TOI.
The 22-year-old Rana had an impressive Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL), where he helped KKR clinch the IPL title by picking up a total of 19 wickets in 13 matches. He was also selected for the Bangladesh T20I series but didn't play any game.
The Test side didn't have the best of games against New Zealand as they lost the series 2-0 and are on the cusp of a white-wash. This was the first time, India lost a home Test series after a period of 12 years.
With the back-to-back losses, Rohit Sharma and Co's qualification for the World Test Championship (WTC) looks a bit difficult. The team still need 3 wins and a draw to register their name at the summit clash of the competition for the third consecutive time.
The next Test competition will be the BGT and playing against Australia in Australia is never an easy task for any team.
