Star Indian cricketer Sanju Samson spread his wings beyond the world of cricket as he ventured into the business side of things of sporting teams. Known for on-field exploits, the Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain now has taken up a new assignment which will see him in an ownership role.
On Monday (September 9), Samson was confirmed as co-owner of the football team Malappuram FC, which competes in the Kerala Super League (KSL). The announcement comes just two days after the franchise won its first-ever game in the history by defeating Forca Kochi 2-1 in an away game at the iconic Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi.
Malappuram FC is a team based in the district of the same name and will play their home games at the Malappuram District Sports Complex Stadium, also known as the Payyanad Stadium with a capacity of 30,00.
Samson joins an ownership group which also consists of VA Ajmal Bismi, Dr. Anvar Ameen Chelat, and Baby Neelambra.
Talking about the KSL, the 2024 edition is the first-ever season of the league. It is worth noting that the six-team league is not part of the Indian football structure which consists of the Indian Super League (IPL) and I-League.

Will Sanju Samson Be Picked In India's Squad For The Bangladesh Series

Sanju Samson is currently playing the 2024 Duleep Trophy, where he was awarded a last-minute call-up to the India D team after Ishan Kishan was ruled out of the first round of matches. However, Samson did not make the playing XI for their match against India C, with KS Bharat getting the nod.
While Samson is not seen in the scheme of things for India in Test cricket, he has been in and around the plans of the white-ball team. Samson was left out of India's ODI squad for the Sri Lanka series but played the T20I series as well as the tour of Zimbabwe. The star wicketkeeper batter was also part of the 2024 T20 World Cup-winning squad but did not play a single game.
Samson's spot in the squad for the home T20I series against Bangladesh next month is in doubt after he was dismissed for ducks in both games against Sri Lanka.
