The IPL 2025 retention day is just a week away and the franchises are busy inking on the players they want to retain. Courtesy of the changes in rules, many marquee players could be part of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Certain reports have been floating regarding Rishabh Pant's (Delhi Capitals) and Shreyas Iyer's (Kolkata Knight Riders) future with their respective franchises.
A week before the retention date, ESPNcricinfo has provided a huge update on KL Rahul and reported that he could leave Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to be part of the IPL 2025 mega-auction. Rahul hasn't been part of an auction since 2018. As the fans wait for an official word on Rahul, here we have a look at his salary with Lucknow Super Giants -
KL Rahul was LSG's first-choice pre-auction pick and he joined the franchise for a mega sum of Rs 17 crore before IPL 2022. Rahul etched his name in history books and became the joint-highest earner in IPL's history.
Only Virat Kohli had earned this amount before IPL 2022. Rahul was also bestowed with captaincy and he earned the same amount every year till IPL 2024.
Rahul-led LSG made it to the second round of IPL 2022. He was ruled out of the second half of IPL 2023. LSG made it to the playoffs under Krunal Pandya's leadership. The Lucknow-based franchise finished at the seventh spot in the points table in IPL 2024.
While Rahul didn't excel on the captaincy front, he did well with the bat. Rahul scored 616 runs in LSG's debut season. In 2023, he scored 274 runs in 9 matches before getting ruled out. The LSG opener breached the 500-run mark and scored 520 runs in 14 matches in IPL 2024.
Rahu's price could see a decrease in the mega-auction as his scoring rate hasn't improved much in the past few seasons. He has batted with a strike rate of more than 150 in only one season so far.
