Karan Jotwani is thrilled to feature in PWR DUPR India Masters.
Indian actor Karan Jotwani has said that the ability of the PWR DUPR India Masters to gather so many people from around the world for pickleball makes the tournament a celebration of the sport. Jotwani is in New Delhi for the event, a PWR700 event that kicked off on Thursday in the city and will go on till Sunday, October 27, with over 700 participants in the mix.
The PWR DUPR India Masters will be the first pickleball tournament in India, a fully owned and operated event by Pickleball World Rankings (PWR) following the successful launch of the PWR World Tour in July 2024 in Dubai, UAE.
The participants include top international players such as the United States' Dustin Boyer and Phuc Huynh, Roos Van Reek (Netherlands), Australia's Mitch Hargreaves and Emilia Schmidt, Pei Chuan Kao (Chinese Taipei), as well as leading Indian players like Armaan Bhatia and Aditya Ruhela.
"I have a bit of racquet sports background. I used to play tennis back in the day and was introduced to pickleball just last year when I saw a few people play the sport in my gymkhana back in Mumbai. Anything to do with racquet sport, be it table tennis, badminton, pickleball, padel or even tennis, is very close to my heart," Jotwani told Pickleball Now when asked how he was introduced to the sport.
"I am 34 now so I can't match these guys at 20 and 18 but then again, the spirit and the enthusiasm they have is immense. A tournament like this in New Delhi, to get so many people from around the world here is a great thing. I don't think there is a lot of viewership yet of the sport in India but it's a lot recreational and people would love it," Jotwani added.
The actor also commented on how pickleball has attracted people across all age groups.
"It is pan-all age groups for sure. It's a good sport for everyone. The padel is light and it uses a plastic ball. You don't have to be perfect unless you go professional. Just have fun," Jotwani said.
