Sri Lankan captain Chamari Athapaththu issued a strong statement before the high stakes encounter against India in the T20 World Cup and said that her team has plans in place for the Indian batters.
Stating that the Indian side is no doubt a good team, Athapaththu said, “I know India are a good team, they have good batters, but I feel Shafali (Verma), Smriti (Mandhana), and all have struggled because of the low bounce and the pace.”
“I think the key player is Jemimah (Rodrigues). She's so good with these tracks compared to other batters,” she added.
“We have to execute our right plan at the right time. That's the most important thing,” she furhter added.
Meanwhile, Indian vice-captain Smriti Mandhana shared her thoughts, and said that the batters have to be really smart. "I think the brand of cricket which we want to play, I would say that in the first match we could not do that. Even in the second match, I wouldn't say we played 100% of our cricket"
“I think it's a balance between trying to find out what's the best for the team. Of course, in the last match, I started off fine, but then later I consumed a few dot balls, which was a little irritating for me. But yeah, having said that, I think as batters we have to be really smart.”
