The mega auction is set to make a return for the first time since IPL 2022, with the teams having a deadline of October 31 to announce the players they have retained and released ahead of the auction. Gujarat Titans would be scratching their heads as to who to retain and who to release especially after their disappointing season in the IPL 2024. They dearly missed Mohammed Shami last season, as the fast bowler was out due to injury. Now, speculations as to whether Shami will be retained at all by GT have become rife especially after their latest post on social media.

Did GT Confirm Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan Retentions?

Gujarat Titans has made a post on X on October 23, eight days before the auction. They posted three pictures of Shubman Gill and Rashid Khan, their captain and vice-captain, with a cryptic one-line captain. "All over the opponents like a Shub-Rash," the caption read.

Posting the two star players' photos so close to the IPL 2025 retention deadline from their official X account has prompted many to believe that these two would be the players who are sure shot retentions for Gujarat Titans. This would also mean that the franchise are not sure about retaining Mohammed Shami, who has been their top wicket-taker in both seasons in 2022 and 2023, where they finished champions and runners-up respectively.

Haven't Had Any Word With Franchise: Mohammed Shami

In an interaction with Sportstak, Mohammed Shami has confirmed that he does not know anything about whether Gujarat Titans would retain him or not as the franchise have not spoken with him yet. However, he would not refuse them if they do give him the option.
“I don’t know anything about this. The decision lies firmly with the franchise. If they feel the need to retain me, then they will. Otherwise, they won’t. I haven’t had any word with them so far, but if they do give the option, then who would refuse them?” he said.
