The IPL 2025 is all set to return with the mega auction for the first time since the 2022 edition. Before the auction, the teams have a deadline of up to October 31 to announce their final list of retained and released players. All eyes will be on Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and whether they would retain MS Dhoni, especially after the BCCI reintroduced the special uncapped player policy. However, there is still no clarity regarding if this would happen or not. It looks like we might finally get some clarity.

MS Dhoni To Meet CSK Officials

According to a report by Sports Tak, MS Dhoni is set to meet officials of CSK on October 29 or 30, a day or two before the October 31 deadline. Sources close to the proceedings said that CSK wanted to meet Dhoni on 28th, but the five-time IPL winning captain said that he was not available on that date. Only after meeting Dhoni, will the franchise finalise their retentions.

How MS Dhoni Can Be Retained For Just Rs 4 Crore?

The BCCI has brought back the old rule which states that an Indian player can be retained as an uncapped player if he is retired for more than four years. Dhoni last played an international match back in 2019 during the ODI World Cup semi-final against New Zealand, and hence he qualifies to be an uncapped player for CSK. Hence, he can be retained for a pretty low price of Rs 4 crore, which would be the least salary of his entire IPL career.

Who Will CSK Retain?

According to a report by the Times of India, Chennai Super Kings are set to make five retentions including MS Dhoni. They will retain their captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, alongside vetern all-rounder Ravindra Jadej, Shivam Duve and Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana.
