Not long ago, USA's pickleball star, Dustin Boyer was playing in pro tournaments in tennis and when he finally decided to switch to pickleball, he transformed himself into a different player altogether. In a short span of one year, Boyer went on to defeat as many as 25 top singles players like Quang Duong as per the DUPR ranking and has made a name for himself by emerging as one of the top players from his country.
Presently ranked 46th in the world in the singles category, Dustin will be competing at the PWR DUPR India Masters, which will be a PWR700 event, where top pickleball stars from the world will be competing for a 4-day mega event, starting from 24th October in Delhi.
The PWR or the Pickleball World Rankings came into existence due to the collaboration of Pickleball League Asia Private Limited and The Times Group at a Dubai event in July 2024 in order to take the game to greater heights.
Speaking of his transition from tennis, Boyer talks about how the singles and doubles category fair out in this racquet sport.
'I started playing pickleball a year ago. For singles, it's a lot like tennis, for doubles it's slow play and different strategies. Took a little time for doubles, so working on it," he told Pickleball Now in an exclusive interaction.
Talking about his experience in India, Boyer said that he is a huge fan of Indian food. In one of his posts on Instagram, he highlighted his love for butter chicken, which he devoured during a pro tournament in the country a few years back.
'I love Indian food and the weather is good. I love the warm weather. It's a bonus for me. I feel great to be here. I was here in Delhi for a Pro tournament, two years ago and now I am back to play pickleball', Boyer expressed.
Pickleball is currently one of the fastest-growing sports in the USA and is gaining popularity all over the world. He talks about the reason, why it is gaining fame like mainstream sports.
'It is pretty easy to pick up and a great way to meet people. Just go out there and play. For tennis, it's a little tougher," Dustin explained.
Lastly, he expressed his excitement to feature in the India Masters and he is looking forward to playing against his countrymen, players from Europe and a few Indian players, who he played against during his tennis days.
'Yeah, I know a bunch of people, who came down here from the States, Europe and all over the world. It's gonna be fun to see some players from India too, whom I know and have played tennis against', he concluded.
