A second-string Team India led by Suryakumar Yadav will make its on-field return in the T20I series against South Africa in November. The series includes four T20Is. The team will include the likes of Hardik Pandya, Sanju Samson and others. But Ishan Kishan will not be part of the series.
The wicketkeeper-batsman has made his return to domestic cricket in the ongoing season and he is leading the Jharkhand cricket team. But Ishan will have to wait to make his India comeback.
The wicketkeeper-batsman is at least back in the national fold as he has been included in the India A squad for the Australia tour. Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India A team is scheduled to Australia for two unofficial Test matches against Australia A.
After two first-class matches, India A will face Team India in an intra-squad match before the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Since Ishan will be in Australia, he won't travel to the rainbow nation. The India-South Africa T20I series will be played from November 8 to 15. The India A tour of Australia will also take place at the same time.
Ishaan's return to the red-ball team hints that the selectors are looking at him as a prospect for the Australia tour. This also seemingly confirms that Ishan might not play international cricket in 2024. Rishabh Pant is confirmed to keep wickets in Australia while Dhruv Jurel will be his backup.
Ishan took a break in 2023/24
Ishan Kishan took a break during the South Africa tour and he returned home before the start of the Test series. He skipped the last round of the Ranji Trophy despite the BCCI's order. This resulted in Ishan getting dropped from the BCCI contract list.
He made his return in IPL 2024. After the T20 league, he played in the Buchi Babu tournament and was also named in the India C squad for the Duleep Trophy. Ishan made his much-awaited return to the Ranji Trophy in the first round of the tournament. The 26-year-old has played 2 Tests, 27 ODIs and 32 T20Is. Ishan was part of the 2023 World Cup team.
