India suffered a crushing eight-wicket defeat to New Zealand in the first Test at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. It was a bitter-sweet Test for India where the team was bowled out for 46 in the first innings but showed nerves of steel to bounce back and push the match into the fourth innings despite conceding a 350+ run lead in the first innings.
Sarfaraz Khan and Rishabh Pant were the cornerstones of the fightback. Sarfaraz was in full flow in the second innings and scored a brilliant 150. Rishabh Pant, on the other hand, missed a century but played an electrifying knock of 99. When Pant and Sarfaraz were batting, it seemed India would set a target of 250+ but the team collapsed from 408-3 to 462 all-out.
Meanwhile, two days after the defeat, a video of Rohit Sharma went viral on social media. In the video, Rohit could be heard telling Ashwin to provide him with a wicket. "Lefty ko out karna hai yaar mereko. Zyada hero ban raha hai wo (I want to dismiss the left-handed batter. He is trying to be over smart)," Rohit told Ashwin.
After the defeat, Rohit Sharma said the team won't change their mindset after one match or series.
"We don't change our mindset based on one game or one series. We are not going to change our mindset fearing the losing of a Test match," Rohit said in the post-match press meet.'
"It's about to try and not let the opposition know that we are under pressure or we are behind the game. When you are actually behind, you want to try and do extraordinary things and play without any fear.
"Some of the Test matches we played recently shows what I am talking about and that's how it's going to be. It's one thing to talk about it, but actually we went out there (in Bengaluru) and played some fearless cricket," added Rohit.
