Gujarat Titans (GT) will be without the services of Gary Kirsten in IPL 2025. The GT's mentor left the franchise after the end of IPL 2024 and joined Pakistan's white-ball teams as their head coach. Kirsten's absence left a big void in GT's coaching staff and the franchise has now reportedly inked on his replacement.
The Times of India has reported that GT have replaced Kirsten with Parthiv Patel and he will take over as GT's batting mentor. The former Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru opener (RCB) was a regular in IPL for over a decade. He played for six teams during his 13-year IPL run.
Patel played for Chennai Super Kings, Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He is a three-time IPL winner. Following his retirement, Patel joined Mumbai as their scout.
The wicketkeeper-batsman will be working along with Ashish Nehra, Vikram Solanki and other members of the coaching staff. Nehra is GT's head coach while Solanki is the franchise's director of cricket. In 2022, Nehra became the first-ever Indian head coach to win the title in IPL's history.
GT made their IPL debut in IPL 2022 and won the inaugural edition of the tournament under Hardik Pandya's leadership. They made it to the final of IPL 2023, where they lost to Chennai Super Kings.
GT suffered a big blow before IPL 2024 as Hardik Pandya left the franchise to join Mumbai Indians via trade. The franchise handed the captaincy to Shubman Gill.
GT only managed 5 wins from 14 matches and finished at the 8th spot in the points table. Mohammed Shami was down with an injury and missed the complete season. GT will hope to bounce back strongly and emulate their IPL 2022's success. Shubman could continue as their captain.
