Ignored by Team India for the T20I series against Bangladesh, Ishan Kishan is set to make his return to the Ranji Trophy for the Jharkhand cricket team. The wicketkeeper-batsman has been appointed the captain of the Jharkhand for the first two matches of the 90-year old tournament. Ishan will make his return to the premier domestic tournament after missing the previous season.
Ishan made his India Test debut against West Indies in 2023 and retained his spot for the South Africa tour. He pulled out of the series before the start of the Test matches and took a break from the game. Ishan missed the last round of the Ranji Trophy season despite the BCCI's order.
As a result of it, he lost his central contract and was dropped from the BCCI's list. Ishan wasn't considered for the Test series against England and uncapped Dhruv Jurel made it to the national team for the series.
Ishan made his return to the game in IPL. Following the T20 league, he returned for the Duleep Trophy. After the Duleep Trophy, he played in the Irani Cup. Dhruv was also part of the Rest of India team and kept wickets.
Ishan isn't in contention to make his Test comeback and he is unlikely to make his return for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Since Ishan will now make his return to Ranji Trophy, he could be considered for the T20I series against South Africa. Team India will have a second-string squad for the series.
Jharkhand will kick off their Ranji Trophy campaign against Assam starting October 11. They will take on Railways in their second game from October 18 to 21. Ishan will be assisted by Virat Singh.
Jharkhand's squad for first two Ranji Trophy matches: Ishan Kishan (Captain), Virat Singh (vice-captain), Kumar Kushagra (wk), Nazim Siddique, Aryaman Sen, Sharandeep Singh, Kumar Suraj, Anukul Roy, Utkarsh Singh, Supriyo Chakraborty, Saurabh Shekhar, Vikas Kumar, Vivekanand Tiwary, Manishi, Ravi Kumar Yadav, Raunak Kumar
