PCB Fumes Over Reports Of Champions Trophy Final Shifting To Dubai: 'There Is Absolutely No Truth' (Source: ICC)

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) refuted the reports of the Champions Trophy final moving out of Pakistan to Dubai if India qualify for the summit clash. The reports suggested that PCB is considering a hybrid model for the Champions Trophy, with India playing its matches at a different venue, preferably Dubai. There is a lot of uncertainty surrounding the Champions Trophy given India's unclear stance on touring Pakistan for the showpiece event.
India have not toured the country since the Asia Cup 2008. They were set to play the 2022 Asia Cup in Pakistan but the board refused to tour the country, citing the government's disapproval, after which the tournament was played in a hybrid model, with a few games in Pakistan and other matches, including the final in Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, a PCB spokesperson denied the reports of Champions Trophy final being played in Dubai and said that preparations are in full swing to host the entire tournament in Pakistan.
“There is absolutely no truth to the reports suggesting that the Champions Trophy final could be moved outside Pakistan. We are working diligently to ensure that all preparations for the tournament are on track, and we are confident that Pakistan will be able to host a memorable event.” a PCB spokesperson was quoted as saying by Cricket Pakistan on Tuesday.
As per a tentative schedule, the tournament is scheduled to be played from February 19 to March 9, 2025. Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium has been earmarked to host seven matches, including the much-anticipated final on March 9 while National Stadium in Karachi is slated to stage the tournament’s opening match as well as one of the semi-finals. Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, on the other hand, will host the other semi-final and five additional matches.
